UK Billboard Hot 40 - 25th December 2011

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope yous enjoyed it.

Olly Murs has performed beyond my expectations and secured a 3rd week on the chart, becoming only the 3rd artist to do so since starting 21 weeks ago. Rihanna drops a place to #3, whilst both The Pogues and Mariah Carey secure top 10 placings due to their Christmas status; 'Fairytale Of New York' is up 7 to #2 and 'AIWFCIY' is up to #5 from #10.

Further down the charts, more Christmas songs appear, such as Wham! (#13), Slade (#15) and Wizzard (#18). Following campaigns for the official chart, both Lou Monte and Alex Day creep into the bottom of the list, securing #39 and #40 respectively.

The biggest climber this week is Chris Rea with his festive hit 'Driving Home For Christmas', moving a whopping 19 places up the chart to this week's #17.

The biggest faller of the week is Lady Gaga, who drops 10 places to this week's #31 with 'Marry The Night'.

UK Billboard Hot 40 - 18th December 2011

Olly Murs has clung onto the top spot for a second week, after facing stiff competition from Rihanna and Lloyd. Coldplay have a new peak on the chart at #5 with 'Paradise', whilst both The Pogues and Mariah Carey's festive tracks enter the top 10 for the first time.

Further down the chart, another 6 Christmas songs are present, including the classics from Slade, Band Aid, Wizzard and Wham!.

The biggest climber this week is Mariah Carey, up 22 from #32 to #10 with 'All I Want For Christmas Is You', whilst Olly Murs and Drake share the honour of biggest faller, both dropping 13 places to #38 and #39 respectively.

UK Billboard Hot 40 - 11th December 2011

Sorry about how late it is, I had a bit of trouble getting all the videos and didn't get it uploaded till late last night. :-\

As you can see, Olly Murs has stolen the #1 spot from Rihanna (I was not expecting this - see earlier post). Big climbs for the X Factor Finalists and Example, and big falls as well; actually, a lot of falls. The Wanted were this week's biggest fallers, falling from #23 to #36.

Three Christmas songs debuted in the chart this week, and expect a few more next week!!

Amy Winehouse - Our Day Will Come

This is the first posthumous single from Amy Winehouse. It was recorded when she was only 19, and in my opinion is a bit of a gem.

Her album, "Lioness: Hidden Treasures" is out now as well, so go and get it!

A Belated Welcome

I completely forgot to introduce myself and my new blog. The 'About Me' section won't let me change anything which is a pain in the arse but I can live with it.

My name is Oliver, I'm a 20 year old from Blyth in Northumberland and go to Northumbria University to study Business Information Technology (very stressful these past few weeks!). I have a passion for music, particularly anything with a good bassline, but hate stuff like new monkey.

I saw this idea about 4-5 months ago and thought it would be a good insight as to how songs would chart if we used the US's chart system. It makes for some interesting results (Cher Lloyd has lasted a pitiful 4 weeks in the chart with both her songs combined) and some very closely fought battles. One in particular is the on-going battle for the top spot between Rihanna and Maroon 5, having shared the top spot for the past 11 weeks.

I hope you like my blog, please subscribe to it and to my YouTube account, and I promise a new video every Sunday/Monday, depending on how fast I can get them done and how not shit Windows Movie Maker will be. :-)

See ya later!

Example - Midnight Run

As promised here is a full version of one of the new entries in this week's chart. It comes from rapper/singer Example and his album "Playing In The Shadows". Although not expected to set the chart on fire, I feel that out of the whole Hot 40, this is one of the best songs (although I am biased as I love this type of music and this particular album).

It is released tonight actually (4th December) so it should hopefully rise quite nicely up the chart for next week.

Rihanna Deserves A High Five

Rihanna and Calvin Harris have made it a 5th week in a row at #1 with "We Found Love" and it doesn't look like they are going to be stopped any time soon! Olly Murs ("Dance With Me Tonight") and Coldplay have risen up to #2 and #6 respectively, whilst there are two new entries into the top 10. Lady Gaga has jumped 8 places from #17 to #9 with "Marry The Night", and Kelly Rowland's "Down For Whatever" advances 5 places to #10.

In the top 20, Beyonce is a new entry at #16 with "Love On Top". A host of songs have had a burst up the charts, with LMFAO, Charlene Soraia and Katy Perry all gaining two places. Thanks to her performance on the X Factor, Jessie J reaches a new peak of #14 with "Who You Are".

New entries in the lower section of the charts include the X Factor Finalists of 2011 ("Wishing On A Star") at #22, Emeli Sande's second solo single "Daddy" at #24, Cee Lo Green at #34 and Example's quite frankly fantastic "Midnight Run" at #39.

The biggest climber of the week is Avicii, up to #20 from last weeks #36. The biggest faller is JLS, as their single "Take A Chance On Me" tumbles a massive 14 places from #11 to #25.

FULL CHART ON VIDEO COMING TOMORROW!!

Lana Del Rey - Born To Die

This is the second single from Lana Del Rey's debut (if you don't include the shelved one) album of the same name. It follows the successful debut single, "Video Games", which peaked at #9 on the official chart and #11 on the Hot 40.

It is released on the 23rd January 2012, with the official video arriving in the next few days (hopefully!).

The backing music definitely reminds me of something, possibly off Madonna's "Ray of Light" album maybe?
